Hi, I’m Robin Janel Smith, a multidisciplinary creative with a passion for storytelling, technology, and education. I specialize in digital media production, blending creativity with strategy to bring ideas to life across a range of platforms.
My background spans a wide range of digital media work, and I love building creative experiences that are both engaging and effective. Through RJSmith Creative, I support entrepreneurs and organizations with everything from digital content creation to full online presence development. My work is rooted in thoughtful design, technical know-how, and a commitment to helping clients communicate clearly in a digital world.
I also work as a “ghost developer” for PR and marketing firms – while I can’t publicly share all of that work, I’m happy to provide samples upon request.
Whether I’m producing content, designing systems, or solving creative challenges, I bring a hands-on, strategic approach to every project.
I’m passionate about helping people build digital skills and creative confidence. I run Surge Academy, where I teach coding, game design, and digital media to kids and teens both online and in person.
I also teach as an adjunct professor in the Web & Digital Design department at UMGC, where I lead courses such as Game Design I, Virtual Reality Design, Digital Media & Society, and Image Editing. I regularly teach using the Unity game engine and the C# programming language, helping students explore how interactive technologies can be used for creative expression and storytelling.
I hold an MFA in Digital Arts, an MA in Communication (focused on editing for cinema and TV), and a BS in Music Engineering Technology.
I’m currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Learning Design & Technology at UMGC, which I’ll complete by the end of Fall 2025. My goal is to deepen my ability to create meaningful, accessible learning experiences through the thoughtful use of digital tools.
